''Broken Time'' On The Drum Set

“Broken time” is a term used for distributing a time pattern around the drum kit without a consistent ride pattern/comping (time pattern/accompaniment) relationship.

Bob Breithaupt illustrates some of the foundation of the hybrid, “ECM” styles (found on recordings from this European record label) with common example of this approach.
