How To "Choke" A Cymbal

A “choke” cymbal sound is used in various genres, from traditional jazz to concert band, orchestral to solo percussion settings.

 

Educator Bob Breithaupt demonstrates creating an effective choke sound, where the cymbal must speak prior to dampening the sound.
